Guidelines For the Practice of Telepsychology (APA, 2013) PDF These guidelines written by the Amereican Psychological Association, were developed to aid in the practice of telepsychology and are informed by the APA standards and guidelines for ethical practice. Current ethical standards, legal requirements, telecommunication technologies, external constraints and intra and interagency policies are discussed. 

Best Practices in Videoconferencing-Based Telemental Health (APA & American Telemedicine Association, 2018) PDF This document was developed by the APA and ATA to provide updated resources and guidelines for the best practices when using clinical videoconferencing in telemental health. It has both clinical and administration guidelines. 

Practice Guidelines for Telemental Health with Children and Adolescents (ATA, 2017) PDF This document developed by the American Telemedicine Association, is meant to provide clinical guidelines for the use of real time videoconferencing with children and adolescents mental health by a licensed healthcare provider.Three aspects of service delivery are addressed: administration/management, clinical practice and technical design and architecture.

Telebehavioral Health Standards, Guidelines, Best Practices & Other Statements  – Telebehavioral Health Institute

Best Practices in Telemental Health (Indiana Counseling Association) This webinar presented by Raymond Barrett, LMHC, BC-TMH and owner of the Telehealth Certification Institute discusses the in’s and out’s of telemental health starting with the research, benefits and need for videoconferencing mental health service. Raymond later touches on the drawbacks of telemental health like legal and ethical issues and finishes with tips on emergency procedures, technology and environment set-up and further training options. 

A Framework of Interprofessional Telebehavioral Health Competencies: Implementation and Challenges Moving Forward (Maheu et al., 2018) This article walks through seven interprofessional telebehavioral health competencies that were developed to standardized training and improve quality of care. The competencies are presented with short descriptions and examples of the skills in practice. 

Using Technology-Based Therapeutic Tools in Behavioral Health Services: TIP 60 PDF This Treatment Improvement Protocol developed by SAMHSA is intended to introduce behavioral health service providers to treatments that are technology-based, as well as review prevention and intervention tools. Part 1 has principles to guide technology-based practice and Part 2 includes vignettes to demonstrate TAC in behavioral health services.

Telehealth Outreach ProgramTelehealth Outreach Program (TOP) is a collaborative effort to increase access to evidence-based trauma-focused mental health treatments for children and adolescents through telehealth technology. Through funding from SAMHSA, the MUSC Center for Telehealth, and the National Children’s Alliance, the TOP provides training and ongoing consultation needed to build the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver TF-CBT and other trauma-focused EBTs via telehealth.
